A parhelic circle is a type of halo, an optical phenomenon appearing as a horizontal white line at the same altitude as the Sun, or occasionally the Moon. When complete it stretches all the way around the sky, though more commonly it appears only in sections, and when produced by moonlight rather than sunlight it is instead called a paraselenic circle.
