A prolonged interval of elevated extinction spanning the Kellwasser event, around 372 million years ago near the Frasnian-Famennian boundary, and the Hangenberg event at the very end of the Devonian around 359 million years ago. Roughly 40 percent of marine species were lost, with reef-building organisms especially hard hit, amid widespread oceanic anoxia.
