Kitsune no yomeiri

Kitsune no yomeiri, literally the fox's wedding, is a Japanese term covering several related occurrences reported across Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu: atmospheric ghost lights that appear to drift through the dark like the paper lanterns of a wedding procession, and sunshowers, rain falling while the sun still shines. Both are folded into the same folk name because each resembles, in different ways, a procession attributed to the trickster fox spirits, or kitsune, of Japanese legend, and both have their own local Shinto rituals and festive customs.
