Iceblink is a white glow seen near the horizon, especially reflected on the underside of low clouds, produced when light bounces off an ice field lying just beyond the observer's view. Both Inuit navigators and explorers searching for the Northwest Passage used iceblink to detect ice beyond the horizon, and the phenomenon has been recorded in both polar regions, including by Arctic Inuit and by Antarctic expeditions such as the James Ross and Terra Nova voyages; its inverse is water sky.
