The growing season is the portion of the year during which local conditions, including rainfall, temperature and daylight, permit normal plant growth. Every plant has its own specific requirements, but growing seasons generally follow broader environmental patterns shaped by geography. Latitude affects the angle of the Sun and how quickly soil warms, while altitude shortens the growing season at higher elevations, since cooler temperatures there compress the viable growing window compared with lower elevations at a similar latitude.
