A blizzard is a severe snowstorm marked by strong sustained winds and low visibility, lasting a prolonged period, typically at least three or four hours; a ground blizzard occurs when snow that has already fallen is blown by wind rather than falling fresh. Blizzards can be immense in size, often stretching across hundreds or thousands of kilometers.
