Atmospheric optics is the study of the optical characteristics of the atmosphere and of the products of atmospheric processes, including phenomena at temporal and spatial resolutions beyond those discernible with the naked eye. Meteorological optics is the part of atmospheric optics concerned with patterns that are observable with the naked eye, though the two terms are sometimes used interchangeably.
