Siltstone, also known as aleurolite, is a clastic sedimentary rock composed mostly of silt, a form of mudrock with low clay mineral content distinguished from shale by its lack of fissility. It represents consolidated fine sediment that settled out of air or water in relatively quiet depositional environments.
