The Kent Group is a cluster of six granite islands in Bass Strait, northwest of Tasmania Furneaux Group, protected as Kent Group National Park and covering 1,576 hectares in total. Deal Island is the largest, followed by Erith, Dover, North East Isle, South West Isle and Judgement Rocks, and Murray Pass between Deal and Erith islands, though used for shelter from storms, has been the site of numerous shipwrecks since 1816. Matthew Flinders named the group Kent Group on 8 February 1798 in honor of Captain William Kent, and sealers worked the islands from around 1803.
