Outer Lands

The Outer Lands is the prominent terminal moraine archipelagic region off the southern coast of New England in the United States, an eight-county region of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York comprising Cape Cod and the islands of Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, the Elizabeth Islands, Block Island and Long Island. Though geographers widely acknowledge the chain, it is rarely given one settled name; it was called the Isles of Stirling when granted to William Alexander, 1st Earl of Stirling, in 1635, and the name Outer Lands was popularized by author Dorothy Sterling's 1967 natural history guide of the same title.
