Loyalty Islands

The Loyalty Islands form an archipelago in the Pacific Ocean northeast of Grande Terre, comprising the Loyalty Islands Province, one of three top-level administrative divisions of New Caledonia, a French collectivity. The group includes six inhabited islands, Lifou, Mare, Tiga, Ouvea, Mouli and Faiava, along with numerous smaller uninhabited islets, and reaches a highest elevation of 138 meters on Mare Island. The province's seat is We, on Lifou, and as of 2019 the islands had a combined population of 18,353 across a total area of about 1,981 square kilometers. The archipelago falls within the New Caledonia rain forests ecoregion.
