Derawan Islands

The Derawan Islands are a group of thirty one islands off the coast of East Kalimantan province, Indonesia, on the coastal shelf of the Sulawesi Sea within Berau Regency. The best known islands are Derawan, Kakaban, Maratua, and Sangalaki, and the archipelago also includes many submerged reefs and islets. It lies within the Coral Triangle, one of the most biodiverse marine regions on Earth, with reported counts of 872 reef fish species and 507 coral species, along with giant clams, sea turtles, and coconut crabs.
