Caroline Islands

The Caroline Islands are a widely scattered archipelago of about 500 small coral islands in the western Pacific Ocean, north of New Guinea, spanning roughly 3,540 kilometers from west to east. They are divided today between the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau, and were once governed from Manila as part of the Spanish East Indies under the name New Philippines. Most of the group consists of low coral atolls, though some landmasses rise well above sea level, with the highest point, Dolohmwar on Pohnpei, reaching 791 meters.
