This group collects the former Valleys of the Alps and Central Europe group's members lying in the eastern ranges of the Alps: the valleys of Austria across Tyrol, Vorarlberg, Carinthia and Lower Austria, the valleys of Italy's South Tyrol and Trentino, and the Julian and Kamnik Alps of Slovenia. The eastern Alps are geologically dominated by the Northern and Southern Limestone Alps and the crystalline central zone running through the Hohe Tauern and the Dolomites, a markedly different rock record from the granitic western arc, and its valleys share a common Austrian, Slovenian and South Tyrolean settlement and place-name history that sets them apart from the rest of the range.
