Rock Fins and Eroded Rock Fields

Narrow residual walls of hard rock and fields of rock formed by erosion, such as fins left standing between eroded fractures and natural rock formation areas worn into shapes by weathering. A landform belongs here when its cited article describes a fin or an erosional rock formation area. It excludes mesas, buttes and potholes. Fins form where parallel joints let the weathering strip away softer rock on either side, leaving thin vertical slabs.
