Gorges, ravines, chines, klamms and similar narrow steep-walled cuts, usually carved by a stream through hard rock or by a river running to the sea through soft cliffs. They are generally narrower and shorter than canyons, and many are popular for walking, climbing and river sport. A landform belongs here when its cited article calls it a gorge, ravine, chine or klamm. Each member is placed by what its own article says it is, never by its name alone.
