The Zimbabwe Craton is an area of ancient continental crust in Southern Africa, part of the ancient continent of Western Gondwana, with rock dating back to the early Archean and possibly as old as 3.46 billion years. It takes its name from Zimbabwe, where most of it lies, and is separated from the Kaapvaal Craton to the southeast by the 250 kilometer wide Limpopo Belt, the two cratons having stabilized together around 2.8 to 2.5 billion years ago in the late Archean, with the Zambezi Belt lying to its north.
