Wase Rock

Wase Rock, known locally as Gwauron Dutse in Hausa, is a massive dome-shaped inselberg standing alone on the plain near Wase town in Plateau State, central Nigeria. It rises about 298 meters above the surrounding plain to a summit 543 meters above sea level, and its isolated dome shape makes it a prominent landmark visible from a great distance across the flat Wase plain. The rock is composed of trachyte, a fine-grained volcanic rock, and its form is the eroded remnant of a volcanic neck or plug left standing after the softer surrounding material wore away.
