Vasquez Rocks is a formation of steeply tilted sedimentary sandstone and conglomerate in the Agua Dulce area of northern Los Angeles County, California, uplifted and tilted to dramatic angles by tectonic activity along the San Andreas Fault system. The rock takes its name from Tiburcio Vasquez, a nineteenth century Californio bandit who reportedly used the formation's caves and outcrops as a hideout. Protected today as Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park, the site is also one of the most frequently used filming locations in American television and film for its distinctive angled rock slabs.
