The Valley of Josaphat is a valley named in the biblical Book of Joel as the place where God will judge the nations, a name meaning Yahweh judges and also rendered the Valley of Decision. Scholars have proposed more than one location for it, including a site in the Judaean Desert near Teqoa, but it has most often been identified with the Kidron Valley between Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives, a connection recorded as early as 333 CE by the Pilgrim of Bordeaux. The valley carries deep significance in Christian, Jewish and Islamic tradition as the prophesied site of divine judgment, and historically served as the principal burial ground of Jerusalem.
