Tower karst consists of tall, steep sided rock formations made of soluble rock such as limestone. It forms as near vertical joints and fractures in the rock are eroded downward by dissolution, gradually isolating parts of what was once a single coherent rock mass into separate towers. Tower karst is most common in tropical regions, although it can also develop in other climates.
