Stromboli

Stromboli is a volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the north coast of Sicily, part of Italy's Aeolian Islands, rising 926 meters above sea level and extending more than 2,700 meters above the surrounding sea floor. It has erupted almost continuously for an estimated two thousand to five thousand years, its small, frequent bursts of incandescent lava earning it the nickname the Lighthouse of the Mediterranean because they are visible from the island and the surrounding sea. The island covers about 12.6 square kilometers and is home to roughly 500 people. In July 2024 Italy's Civil Protection Department issued its highest alert level after Stromboli erupted at the same time as Mount Etna.
