The Strofades are a group of two small, sparsely vegetated Greek islands in the Ionian Sea, about 44 kilometers south-southeast of Zakynthos: the larger Stamfani and the smaller Arpia, both uninhabited. Stamfani carries a fortress-monastery built in 1241 for Princess Irene Laskarina after she was shipwrecked there, which has survived pirate raids and earthquake damage over the centuries.
