Storglaciären, Swedish for the great glacier, is a polythermal subarctic-alpine valley glacier in the Tarfala Valley of the Scandinavian Mountains, in Kiruna Municipality, Sweden. It covers 3.1 square kilometers, extends 3.5 kilometers in length, and reaches a maximum depth of 255 meters. The glacier has been retreating since 1910 and lost a cumulative 17 meters of mass balance between 1946 and 2006. It is the site of the world's longest continuously running glacier mass balance research program, begun immediately after the Second World War and still maintained today from the nearby Tarfala research station operated by Stockholm University.
