South Island (Kenya)

South Island, also called Hohnel Island, is a fissure-formed volcanic island in Lake Turkana, Kenya, and the largest of the lake's three other major islands. The volcano was found erupting in 1888 by the Hungarian explorer Count Samuel Teleki, who led the first European expedition into the region. The island lies within the Lake Turkana National Parks, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
