Somma Volcano

A somma volcano is a volcanic caldera that has been partially filled by a new central cone rising within it, creating a nested structure of an older, broader rim around a younger inner peak. The name comes from Mount Somma in southern Italy, the stratovolcano whose summit caldera cradles the younger cone of Mount Vesuvius, the type example of the form.
