Shaʽb Abu Nuħas is a triangular coral reef in the northern Red Sea, northwest of Shadwan Island off Hurghada, Egypt, whose Arabic name means reef of the father of copper after cargo salvaged from one of its wrecks. Because the reef extends into the shipping channel, it has claimed at least seven vessels between 1896 and 1987, including the SS Carnatic, the Kimon M, the Giannis D and the Chrisoula K, four of which now lie at depths beyond 30 meters. The wrecks and the reef itself have made the site a major destination for scuba divers exploring the northern Red Sea.
