Scott Valley

Scott Valley is a large rural valley in western Siskiyou County, California, known for its ranching country and views of the Marble Mountains. The valley is drained by the Scott River, a federally designated Wild and Scenic waterway, and includes the towns of Fort Jones, Etna, Greenview and Callahan. Before European contact the valley was home to the Scott Valley branch of the Shasta people; Hudson's Bay Company trappers including Stephen Meek arrived in 1836, and gold discovered by John W. Scott in 1850 gave the valley and its river their present name. Its economy, historically built on gold mining and logging, has shifted since logging declined in the 1990s, and the valley is the only home of the endemic Scott Valley phacelia.
