The San Joaquin Valley is the southern half of California's Central Valley and serves as one of the state's most important agricultural regions, producing a large share of California's farm output. The valley spans eight counties and includes four major urban centers: the Stockton and Modesto area, Fresno, the Porterville and Visalia area, and Bakersfield.
