A saddle is the area surrounding the saddle point between two hills or mountains, the lowest point on the line tracing the drainage divide that connects the two peaks. Where the saddle is navigable, even on foot only, it forms the lowest route by which a person can pass between the two summits, and that lowest point along the connecting ridge is known as the col of the saddle.
