Resurgent Dome

A resurgent dome is a dome-shaped uplift of a caldera floor caused by renewed movement in the magma chamber beneath it, distinguished from a lava dome because the ground itself is pushed upward and deformed by moving magma rather than built up by extruded lava. Resurgent domes typically rise near the center of very large calderas, such as those at Yellowstone and Valles Caldera, which are themselves classed as resurgent-type calderas to set them apart from the smaller calderas found on shield volcanoes and stratovolcanoes.
