A ravine is a landform narrower than a canyon, most often produced by the erosion of a stream bank, and is generally considered larger in scale than a gully but smaller than a full valley. Depending on the region, the same kind of landform is also known by other names, including cleuch, dene or dean, dell, gill or ghyll, glen, goyle, gorge, kloof or chine.
