Ramanagara Hills

The Ramanagara Hills, also called Ramagiri Hills, are granite outcrops near the town of Ramanagara in Karnataka, India, formed from the Closepet Granite, a roughly 50-kilometer-wide north-south belt of Lower Proterozoic potassic granite that separates two distinct blocks of Archaean-age crust; the western block carries low-grade granite-greenstone rock with iron and manganese ore, while the eastern block carries younger granitic and granodioritic gneiss with gold-bearing schist. The hills became widely known outside India as the filming location for the 1975 Bollywood film Sholay, which is why they also carry the nickname Sholay Hills. This entity documents Ramanagara Hills specifically as a geological formation, a Closepet Granite outcrop belt separating two Archaean crustal blocks.
