Posavina is a geographical region stretching along the Sava river in the northwestern Balkans, taking in only the inner areas of the Sava river basin, from the Julian Alps in the northwest to where the Sava meets the Danube in the southeast. It spans parts of four former Yugoslav countries, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia, lying in the transitional zone between the Dinaric Mountains to the south and the Pannonian Plain to the north.
