A pillar is a landform of rock or earth that the United States Geological Survey defines as a vertical, standing, often spire shaped natural rock formation. Well known examples of rock pillars include Chambers Pillar and Pompeys Pillar in the United States, Katskhi Pillar in Georgia, and Pillar Rock in the state of Washington.
