Piedra del Cocuy is a granite inselberg in Venezuela's Amazonas State, rising to about 450 meters near the point where the Rio Negro marks the tripoint of Venezuela, Brazil and Colombia. The rock's granitic composition places it among the ancient crystalline outcrops that punctuate the Amazon and Orinoco basins, isolated peaks of resistant rock left standing above the surrounding lowland rainforest after softer material eroded away around them over a vast span of geologic time. A boundary marker sits near the rock, some two kilometers from the actual triple border on an island in the Rio Negro.
