The Piedmont Mountains are a series of outlying, low mountain ranges in the eastern United States, found mostly in the western Piedmont region near the Blue Ridge Mountains and forming part of the larger Appalachian Mountain range. Although the French word piedmont means foothill, a Piedmont Mountain is often of greater prominence or elevation than that name suggests.
