Pico Bolivar is the highest mountain in Venezuela, rising to about 4,978 meters in Merida State, part of the Sierra Nevada de Merida range of the Andes. It is named for the independence leader Simon Bolivar. The peak can be reached only on foot; the Merida cable car, once the highest and longest in the world, climbs only as far as the neighboring Pico Espejo, from which climbers continue on to the summit. This entity documents Pico Bolivar specifically as a geological formation, Venezuela's highest peak, reachable only by a foot ascent from Pico Espejo.
