Nevado del Tolima

Nevado del Tolima is an andesitic stratovolcano in Tolima department, Colombia, in the Central Range of the Andes, rising to 5,276 meters and lying within Los Nevados National Natural Park just south of the larger Nevado del Ruiz. Its summit is a cluster of Late Pleistocene to Holocene lava domes surrounding a funnel-shaped crater 200 to 300 meters deep, giving the volcano a steep-sided, glacier-covered profile distinct from Nevado del Ruiz's broader form. The volcano's residual glacier feeds four major rivers, including the Combeima, the primary water source for the city of Ibague. Nevado del Tolima has been active from the Late Pleistocene into recent times, with its most recent activity recorded in March 1943 and its last major eruption roughly 3,600 years ago.
