Nevado del Quindio

Nevado del Quindio, also known as Volcan Paramillo del Quindio, is an inactive andesitic volcano in the Central Cordillera of the Colombian Andes, sitting atop the Palestina Fault and marking the tripoint of the departments of Risaralda, Tolima and Quindio, of which it is the highest point. It is the fourth-highest peak with more than 300 metres of topographic prominence within Los Nevados National Natural Park, has no historical record of eruption, and lost its glaciers in the second half of the twentieth century as the climate warmed, leaving only intermittent snow rather than the permanent ice its name implies; naturalist Alexander von Humboldt visited the mountain in 1801 and described new species found on its lower cloud-forest slopes.
