The Namib Sand Sea is a coastal dune field within the Namib Desert in western Namibia, one of the world's oldest and largest coastal sand deserts and one of only two dune systems anywhere shaped by fog rolling in from a cold ocean current. Built from sand carried by wind and ancient river systems over millions of years, its dunes include some of the tallest in the world, and the area is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
