Mount Sabyinyo

Mount Sabyinyo stands in the Virunga Mountains, its summit marking the tripoint border of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Uganda, northeast of Lake Kivu and west of Lake Bunyonyi, reaching an elevation of about 3,669 meters. It is an extinct volcano, the oldest in the Virunga chain, its heavily eroded jagged ridge, sometimes likened to an old man's worn teeth, giving the mountain its name, meaning old man's teeth in the local language. The mountain holds religious significance for local tribes and lies within three adjoining protected areas that meet at its summit: Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda.
