Mount Marsabit

Marsabit is a basaltic shield volcano covering about 6,300 square kilometers in Kenya's Marsabit County, near the town of Marsabit, roughly 170 kilometers east of the center of the East African Rift. It was built mainly during the Miocene, though some lava flows and explosive maar-forming eruptions occurred more recently, and at least two of its maars now hold crater lakes. This entity documents Mount Marsabit specifically as a geological formation, a large basaltic shield volcano east of the main rift whose maars hold crater lakes.
