Mount Kailash is a peak in the Gangdise, or Kailash, range of the Transhimalaya in the Tibet Autonomous Region, rising to roughly six thousand six hundred and thirty eight meters. Geologically it lies within the same broad mountain building system produced by the ongoing collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates that raised the Himalayas, though Kailash itself sits north of the main Himalayan range. The peak is notable for its unusually symmetrical, four sided pyramidal shape, distinct among the surrounding mountains.
