Mount Etna

Mount Etna is an active stratovolcano on the east coast of Sicily, Italy, standing about 3,403 meters high, though its exact elevation shifts with ongoing eruptions. It is the largest of Sicily's four active volcanoes and one of the tallest active volcanoes in Europe, sitting between the cities of Messina and Catania. Etna maintains an almost constant state of activity, and its fertile volcanic soils support extensive vineyards and orchards on its slopes. A new eruptive phase began at its Voragine crater in August 2026, continuing a long record of Strombolian activity and lava flows into the Valle del Bove.
