Morfa Harlech sand dunes

Morfa Harlech sand dunes form an extensive dune system stretching north from the town of Harlech in Wales, part of the Morfa Harlech National Nature Reserve. The dunes cover about 6 square kilometers, with roughly 1.5 square kilometers in the middle afforested with Corsican pine. Morfa Harlech is one of Britain's actively growing sand dune systems, fed by longshore drift that is eroding the dunes at nearby Morfa Dyffryn; the growth has pushed the shoreline back so far that nearby Harlech Castle now sits 1,000 metres from its original position on the coast 600 years ago.
