Mont Megantic is a granite peak near the Quebec-Maine border in Canada, formed as an intrusive body of igneous rock roughly during the Early Cretaceous period, attributed by geologists to the same New England hotspot volcanic mechanism that produced the Monteregian Hills further north. The mountain reaches 1,110 meters, making it the highest point in Quebec accessible by road, and sits within a national park best known for its astronomical observatory, built atop the summit to take advantage of the mountain's height and the region's unusually dark skies.
