The Miami Valley is a geographic region of southwestern Ohio centered on the Great Miami River, encompassing Dayton, Hamilton, Springfield and Middletown along with several tributary waterways. Its name comes from the Miami people, a Native American group historically associated with the area, a naming pattern that also produced Miami University and other regional institutions. The region's boundaries are drawn loosely from local television coverage and span Montgomery, Greene, Preble, Clark, Miami, Darke, Champaign, Shelby, Logan, Butler and Warren counties in Ohio, plus parts of Wayne and Mercer counties and territory across the state line in Indiana.
