A meander is one of a series of regular sinuous curves in a stream's channel, produced as the watercourse erodes sediment from an outer, concave bank while depositing sediment on an inner, convex bank that typically forms a point bar. This coupled erosion and deposition produces a sinuous course as the channel migrates back and forth across the floodplain.
