The Matsu Islands are an archipelago of 36 islands and islets in the East China Sea, lying alongside the southeastern coast of mainland China. The archipelago forms Lienchiang County, the smallest county by area and population in the Taiwan Area, and is also part of the nominal Fuchien Province administered by the Republic of China.
